Question

If the proportion of 5 methyl uracil in a ds-DNA is 7% then what will be the total proportion of monocyclic nitrogen bases in this DNA?

a)50% b)43% c)14%d)86%

And given:50%

Solution

monocyclic nitrogen bases are thymine and cytosine.

Here in question it is given than 7% is thymine ( 5 methyl uracil)

So there will be 7% adenine also present (same as thymine)

So remaining 86% contains guanine (43%) and cytosine (43%)

So, total proportion of monocyclic nitrogen bases are sum of thymine and cytosine
ie; 7+43 = 50%
