Question

If the radius of a sphere is doubled, what is the ratio of the volume of the first sphere to that of the second sphere?

Solution

Find the ratio of the volume of the first sphere to that of the second sphere.

Let V1 be the volume of first sphere and V2 be the volume of second sphere.

Also, r2=2r1 (Where r1 is the radius of first sphere and r2 be the radius of second sphere)

The volume of a sphere of radius r =43πr3

V1V2=43πr1343πr23V1V2=43πr1343π2r13V1V2=18

Hence, the required ratio is 18.
