Solution

The correct option is D It will decrease
Translocation of organic solutes in phloem is bidirectional. The transport of prepared food is from source to sink. The source is the area, where sugars are present in larger amount either because they are synthesized there, e.g., leaves. Sink is the region of sugar utilisation. There is a dynamic balance between source and sink and source and sink also keep on shifting depending on the physiological requirements of the plant. Rate of photosynthesis directly depends on rate of sugar utilisation or transportation. If there is a decrease in any of the two sugar consumption processes the rate of sugar synthesis will also decrease.
