Solution

The correct option is C 0.7 MeV
Initial energy is that of the γ photon which is E=2.42MeV
Energy consumed in forming the electron-positron pair will be 0.51MeV+0.51MeV=1.02MeV
So remaining energy will be E=2.42MeV1.02MeV=1.4MeV
This remaining energy will be equally divided in both particles as both have same mass i.e 1.4/2=0.7MeV
for each particle in electron-positron pair.
Option c is correct.
