Let the side of cube = $a$
Volume of cube = side $^{3}$
= $a^{3}$
Now, the side is reduced to half
So, new length of side = $\frac{a}{2}$

Volume after reducing side = $(\frac{a}{2})^{3}$
= $\frac{a^{3}}{8}$
= $\frac{1}{8} \times a^{3}$
So, the volume of cube is reduced by 8 times.
