If the sound level is 60 dB close to a speaker that has an area of 120cm2. The acoustic power output of the speaker is 12×10x Watt. Find x.

We have loudness of sound ,
L=log(I/I0) ,
or (I/I0)=10L ,
given L=60dB=6bel , and we know , I0=1012W/m2 ,
therefore ,
I/I0=106 ,
or I=1012×106=106W/m2 ,
now A=120cm2=120×104m2 ,
power output , P=I×A ,
so P=106×120×104=1.2×108W
