If the switches S1, S2 and S3 in the figure are arranged such that current through the battery is minimum, find the voltage across points A and B.(rounded off to nearest integer)

Solution

Current through battery will be minimum when all switches are open.
So for equivalent circuit as drawn in figure:
Net resistance (netR)=12 Ω , Voltage =24 V
Current through circuit =VnetR=2412=2A
Voltage across AB=l×12=2×12=1V
