The tiny square has unit length, which means the area covered by them is 1 square unit. Thus, counting the number of tiny squares occupying the pink shapes, will give us an idea about the area of the shapes.

For shape A:



14 tiny squares fit perfectly into the pink shape A. So we can say the area of shape A is 14 square unit.

Similarly for shape B:


16 tiny squares occupy the space inside the shape and we know that area is simply the measure of the space occupied inside a shape, thus the area for B is 16 square unit.

So, B has the greater area.
