Question

If the tip of a sugarcane plant is removed, even then it keeps on growing in length. Why?

Solution

If the tip of sugarcane plant is removed, the apical meristem is also removed as it is situated in the apex of growing roots and shoots but still it keeps growing in length because of the presence of intercalary meristem. Intercalary meristem is located at the base of leaves or nodes and leads to increase in the length of leaves and internodes.
