Question

If the unit of force is 100 N, unit of length is 10 m and unit of time is 100 s, what is the unit of mass in this system of units?

Open in App
Solution

The given units are function of SI units. Therefore, SI unit of mass will also be in terms of kg

Step 1: Write dimension of each quantity.

Dimension of force [F]=[MLT2]=100N(i) Dimension of length [L]=[L]=10m(ii) Dimension of time [t]=[T]=100s(iii)

Step 2: Write dimension of each quantity.

Substituting values of [L] and [T] from Eq. (ii) and (iii) in Eq. (i), we get

x[M]×10[L]×(100)2[T2]=100[MLT2]
x×10100×100=100

x=100×1000kg
=105 kg

Final Answer: The unit of mass in this system will be 105kg
