Question

If the velocity of an object is doubled, what is the change in its K.E.?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1:Given

New velocity, v'=2v

Step 2:Finding change in KE

Kinetic energy can be expressed as

KE=12mv2

substituting v'=2v in the formula of kinetic energy

KE'=12m(2v)2

KE'=4×12mv2

KE'=2KE

Hence, when velocity is doubled, kinetic energy becomes 4 times.
