Question

If the wavelength of sound in air incident on reflecting surface is x10m. Find x.

Open in App
Solution

Let the wavelength of the incident wave on the reflecting surface be λ.

For the incident wave, assume the observer (refleccting surface ) be at rest and source is moving towards the observer with vsource=32m/s
Using Doppler effect when source is moving and observer is at rest:

ν=ν[vsoundvsoundvsource]

ν=1000[33233232] =1000[332330]

Now, vsound=νλ

332=1000×332300×λλ=310

Thus x=3
