We know that, each angle of a rectangle is 90°.
So, the angles (x + 30)° and (y + 50)° has to be equated to 90°.

$\Rightarrow (x+30)°=90°\Rightarrow x=90°-30°=60°\Rightarrow x=60°$

$\Rightarrow (y+50)°=90°\Rightarrow y=90°-50°=40°\Rightarrow y=40°$


$\therefore x+y=60°+40°={100}^{\circ }$
$y+50°=40°+50°={90}^{\circ }$
