If two masses m1 and m2 collide with each other. The velocities before collision are u1 and u2 respectively. After the collision, the velocities are v1and v2 respectively. What is the final momentum after the collision?
M1 x u1 + M2 x u2
We know, Momentum = Mass x velocity
So initial momentum of body of mass m1 = m1 u1,
initial momentum of body of mass m2 = m2 u2.
Total initial momentum before collision = m1 u1 + m2 u2
According to the law of conservation of momentum, the total momentum is conserved i.e initial momentum is equal to final momentum.
So we can say m1 u1 + m2 u2 = Final momentum
