If two rectangles ABCD and PQRS whose sides are parallel to the coordinate axes are drawn as shown in below figure then the coordinates of 'P' is ___
(-2,-4)
Given B = (5,6)
Let E, F, G, H be the intersection points of these two rectangles.
AB = 2 cm (Given)
∴ A = (3,6) (∵ AB is parallel to X-axis)
Now AE = 6 cm
∴ y-coordinate E = y-coordinate of A - 6
= 6 - 6
= 0
and x-coordinate of E = x-coordinate of A (∵ AE is parallel to Y-axis)
∴ E = (3,0)
Given ES = 5 cm
∵ ES is parallel to X-axis, y-coordinate of E = y-coordinate of S
and x-coordinate S = x-coordinate of E - 5
= 3 - 5
= -2
∴ S = (-2,0)
PS = 4 cm (Given)
∴ y-coordinate P = y-coordinate of S - 4
= 0 - 4
= -4
and x-coordinate of P = x-coordinate of S (∵ PS is parallel to Y-axis)
∴ Q = (-2,-4)
