Question

If uncertainties in the measurement of position and momentum of an electron are equal, calculate uncertainty in the measurement of velocity.

Open in App
Solution

According to Heisenberg's uncertainty principle,

ΔxΔph4π

Given, Δx=Δp=h4π=0.726×1017

Δp=mΔV

ΔV=Δpm=0.726×10179.1×1031=7.98×1012ms1.

Hence, the uncertainty in the measurement of velocity will be 7.98×1012ms1.
