If we attach an end of iron nail to the south pole of the bar magnet, since unlike poles attract each other, the attached end of iron nail would act as north pole. As any magnet or any material behaving as magnet will necessarily have two poles, north and south, therefore the other free end of the nail would behave as south pole.
