If we cover a part of the lens then the intensity of the image formed of an object placed in front of the lens will decrease.

When some portion of the lens is covered, same nature of image will be formed at the same place by the light rays passing from the top and bottom of the lens. The rays that were passing earlier through the covered region are not passing now, so the intensity of the image will be reduced.
