Question

If we feel bitter in our throat after we put ear medicine or ear drops in our ear, and if the Eustachian tube is present in the middle ear, then how does the ear medicine penetrate the eardrum to reach the middle ear?

Solution

Dear student
The ear drops may reach the middle ear through the small holes present in ear drum due to injury. The ear drum heals these holes by its own after sometime. Hence, when we use ear drops during ruptured eardrum, the ear drops enter middle ear where from they are drained by eustachian tube into throat.
