If x+1x=4, find the values of
(i) x2+1x2 and
(ii) x4+1x4.

(i) x+1x= 4Squaring both the sides:x+1x2= 42x2+1x2+2x1x= 16x2+1x2+2 =16x2+1x2=16-2x2+1x2= 14

Therefore, the value of x2+1x2 is 14.

x2 + 1x2 = 14Squaring both the sides:x4 + 1x4+2x21x2= 142x4 + 1x4+2 = 196x4 + 1x4 = 196-2x4 + 1x4=194

Therefore, the value of x4 + 1x4 is 194.
