Question

If x=2 and x=3 are roots of the equation 3x22kx+2m=0, find the value of k and m.

Open in App
Solution

Since x=2 and x=3 are roots of the equation 3x22kx+2m=0

for x=2

3×222k×2+2m=0

124k+2m=0

12=4k2m......Equation (1)

for x=3

3×322k×3+2m=0

276k+2m=0

27=6k2m.....Equation (2)

Subtracting equation (1) from (2) we get,

15=2k

k=152

Putting this value in equation (1) we get,

m=9

k=152 and m=9
