For x = 5 and y = 9
x + y = 5 + 9 = 14
y - x = 9 - 5 = 4
Now, $x + y : y - x = \frac{x + y}{y - x} = \frac{14}{4} = \frac{7}{2}$
x + y : y - x = 7 : 2.
