Given, x=acosθ+bsinθ......(1) and y=asinθbcosθ......(2).

Now squaring (1) and (2) and then adding we get,

x2+y2=a2(cos2θ+sin2θ)+2absinθ.cosθ2absinθ.cosθ+b2(sin2θ+cos2θ)

or, x2+y2=a2+b2.
