Question

If x and y are acute angles, such that cosx+cosy=32 and sinx+siny=34, then value of sin(x+y).

Open in App
Solution

Given cosx+cosy=32 __ (i)
sinx+siny=34 __ (ii)
sinx+siny=34
2sin(x+y2)cos(xy2)=34 __ (iii)
cosx+cosy=32
2cos(x+y2)cos(xy2)=32 __ (iv)
Dividing (iii) by (iv)
tan(x+y2)=12 __ (v)
sin(x+y2)=15
cos(x+y2)=25
sin(x+y)=2sin(x+y2)cos(x+y2)
=2×15×25
sin(x+y)=45
