Question

If x=5212 find (x+1x)(x2+1x2)(x3+1x3)

Open in App
Solution

x=5212
1x=2521
On stationalising denominator
1x=25.21×5+215+21
1x=2(5+212521=5+212
x+1x=5212+5+212
5
Now calculate x2+1x2
(x+1x)=5 square on both sides
x2+1x2+2=25
x2+1x2=23
x3+1x3(x+1x)3=(5)3
=x3+1x3+3(x+1x)=125
=x3+1x3=110
Hence (x+1x)(x2+1x2)+(x3+1x3)=5.23.110=12,650.
