Question

If x is equal to 1/10 and y is equal to (-3/8)
Then what will be x+y ,. x-y ,and x multiplied by y

Open in App
Solution

x = 1/10
y = -3/8

x+y = 1/10 + (-3/8)
= 1/10 - 3/8
= (1*8 - 3*10) / 8*10 (Taking LCM)
= (8 - 30) / 80
= -22 / 80
= - 11/40 (Divide numerator and denominator with 2)

x-y = 1/10 - (-3/8)
= 1/10 + 3/8
= (1*8 + 3*10) / 8*10 (Taking LCM)
= (8 + 30) / 80
= 38 / 80
= 19/40 (Divide numerator and denominator with 2)

x multiplied by y = x*y
= 1/10 * 3/8
= 1*3 / 10*8
= 3/80
