Question

If (x+iy)1/3=a+ib then prove that:
xa+yb=4(a2b2)

Open in App
Solution

Now,
(x+iy)1/3=a+ib
Cubic both sides we get,
(x+iy)=(a+ib)3
or, x+iy=a33ab2+i(3a2bb3)
Comparing both the real and complex part both sides we get,
x=a33ab2......(1) and y=3a2bb3.......(2).
Now
xa+yb
=(a23b2)+(3a2b2)
=4(a2b2).
