The correct option is C 14
Given: $x - y = 4 \dots . . (i)$
and $2 x + y = 14 \dots . . (i i)$
Adding (i) and (ii), we get,
$(x - y) + 2 x + y) = 4 + 14$
$\Rightarrow x - y + 2 x + y = 18$
$\Rightarrow 3 x = 18$
$\Rightarrow x = 6$
Now, substituting the value of x in (i), we get,
$6 - y = 4$
$\Rightarrow y = 6 - 4$
$\Rightarrow y = 2$
Thus, the value of $x + 4 y = 6 + 8 = 14.$

Hence, the correct answer is option (3).
