Let the resistance of each bulb be R.
When switch is open,
Req=R+R=2R
I=V2R and
Power flowing through X and Y is same =P=I2R=V24R...(1)

Req=R2+R=3R2
I=V22R2=2V23R
PX=I2R=4V29R (2)
And current flowing through Y,IY=V2(2R2)
IY=V3R [Since bulb Y and Z are identical]
PY=I2YR=V29R (3)
Comparing (1), (2), (3) we conclude
PX>P and P>PY
Brightness of bulb X increases and Y decreases.
