Question

If you were going to connect two light bulbs to one battery, would you use a series or a parallel arrangement? why? which arrangement takes more current from the battery?

Open in App
Solution

We would connect the bulbs in parallel for the following reason:
(a) The failure of one bulb would not effect the other.
(b) Both the bulbs will get full potential difference about their terminals equal to emf of the battery.
The parallel arrangement consumes more current.
As Reff=R2 and in case of series the Reff=2R for the same voltage V.
