A path 1 m wide is built along the border and inside a square garden of side 30 m. Find:
The cost of planting grass in the remaining portion of the garden at the rate of ₹ 40 per $m^2$

Answer 1

From the figure,
EF = (AB - 2 cm) = 30 cm - 2 cm = 28 cm
FG = (BC -2 cm) = 30 cm - 2 cm = 28 cm

Area of remaining portion (EFGH)
$=28\times 28=784m^2$

The cost of planting grass in $1m^2$ of the garden = Rs 40

The cost of planting grass in 784 $m^2$ of the garden
$=₹40\times 784=₹31,360$
