The reaction between an alcohol and an acid is called an esterification reaction, where an organic acid $(R C O O H)$ combines with an alcohol $(R O H)$ in presence of conc. $H_{2} S O_{4}$ to form an ester $(R C O O R)$ and water.

$C_{2} H_{5} O H + C H_{3} C O O H \to C H_{3} C O O C_{2} H_{5} + H_{2} O$
