Indirect democracy or representative democracy is a system where people elect their representatives to govern on their behalf. Indirect democracy is important because most modern democracies are too large for direct democracy to be feasible. It is not possible for millions of citizens of a direct democracy to vote on every matter of government policy. Hence, the only practical form of democracy is indirect democracy.
