White precipitate will be obtained when $A g C l$ forms in the solution but as $C H C l_{3}$ is covalent compound, so it doesn't provide chloride ion to react with $A g N O_{3}$ and white precipitate will not form.
But impure chloroform contains $H C l$ , which reacts with $A g N O_{3}$ and white precipitate of $A g C l$ forms due to the following reaction:
$C H C l_{3} + \frac{1}{2} O_{2} \to C O C l_{2} + H C l$
Impure chloroform forms $H C l$ which reacts further as shown below:
$A g N O_{3} + H C l \to A g C l ↓ + H N O_{3}$
