The water potential of pure water is zero. Water potential is total of solute potential and pressure potential. Here, the pressure potential is zero.
Hence, the water potential = solute potential = -iCRT where,
i = ionization constant = 1
C = 0.1 M
R = pressure constant = 0.08314 litre/mole
T = Temperature 298 K.
Hence, water potential = -1 x 0.1 x 0.08314 x 298 = -2.3 bar.
