In 11cm ABCD, AB=10cm. The altitudes corresponding to the sides AB and AD are respectively 7cm and 8cm find AD.

Solution

Let the altitude on AB is DE=7cm
AD is BF=8cm
Area of parallelogram = Base × height
When we take,
AB as base and DE as height
The area of ABCD=10×7
=70cm2
When we take AD as base and BF as height
the area of ABCD=AD×8
As the area remain same, then
AD×8=AB×AE=70AD=708=8.75cm
