In 1929 Lahore session of the Indian National Congress, presided by Jawaharlal Nehru, its members adopted the resolution of "Complete Independence" or Purna Swaraj. At the midnight of 31 December 1929, they marched to the banks of the river Ravi in Lahore and took an oath not to rest until India achieved Purna Swaraj. They also unfurled the flag of independence.
