In a certain species of animals, black fur (B) is dominant over brown fur (b). Predict the genotype and phenotype of the offspring when both parents are 'Bb' or have heterozygous black fur.

Genetic cross:


  1. Here it is given that both the parents are heterozygous for the given character. This means Bb genotype is present in both parents. ​
  2. Based on the parents, the gametes and the possible offspring can be determined using a Punnett square.
  3. At the end of the process the genotypic ratio is 1 (BB) : 2(Bb) : 1(bb).
  4. The phenotypic ratio will be 3 (Black fur) : 1 (brown fur).
