Solution

The correct option is B 13.91
Given
mean and variance of 50 students math marks ¯¯¯¯¯X=8.4
and σ2=20
Also mean and variance of 30 boys math marks ¯¯¯¯¯XB=8.25
and σ2B=24
Suppose mean and variance of 20 girls math marks ¯¯¯¯¯XG and σ2G
As we know
Combined mean ¯¯¯¯¯X=n1¯¯¯¯¯XB+n2¯¯¯¯¯XGn
XG=50×8.430×8.2520=8.625

So Combined variance σ2=n1(σ2B+d2B)+n2(σ2G+d2G)n1+n2
Where,dB=8.48.25=0.15
dG=8.48.625=0.225
20(σ2G+(0.225)2)=50×2030(24+(0.15)2)
σ2G=1000720.675200.050625σ2G=13.966250.50625=13.91
