then, x+y=52$-\left(1\right)$

Ratio of boys and girls is 5:8

$\frac{x}{y}=\frac{5}{8}\to x=\frac{5}{8}y-\left(2\right)$

From eqs.(1) and (2)

$x=20,y=32$

So number of girls are 32.
