Question

In a completely dark room, if you hold up a mirror in front of you, will you see a reflection of yourself in the mirror? Give reason for your answer.

Solution

No, in order to see your reflection, a source of light is required. An image is formed in a mirror when light from an object falls on the mirror and reflects back to our eyes. But in this case, since there is no source of light, there will be no reflection at all. Hence we cannot see the image in a dark room.
