In a conductivity cell the two platinum electrodes, each of area 10 cm2, are fixed 1.5 cm apart. The cell contains 0.05 N solution of a salt. If the two electrodes are just half dipped into the solution which has a resistance of 50 Ω, find specific conductance of the salt solution.

Since, the electrodes of the cell are just half dipped, the effective area(a) will be 5 cm2.
l=1.5 cm
Cell constant=la=1.55=0.3 cm1
Specific conductance=conductance×cell constant=1resistance×cell constant=150×0.3=0.006 Ω1 cm1
