In a convex lens image distance is always positive and in a conacave lens image distance is always negative??

Dear student, in convex lens the image distance can either be positive or negative. Image distance is positive in the case of real and inverted images while it is negative in the case of virtual image. While in concave lens since the image is always virtual and erect, the image distance is always negative. Thanks and regards
