Question

In a fight of 600km, an aircraft was slowed down due to bad weather. Its average speed for the trip was reduced by 200 km/hr and the time of flight increased by 30 minutes. Find the duration of flight.

Solution

Let the original speed of the aircraft be x km/hr.
then new speed =(x200) km.hr

Duration of flight at original speed =(600x)hr

Duration of fight at reduced speed =(600x200)hr

600x200600x=12

600x600(x20)x(x200)=12120000x2200x=12

x2200x240000=0x2600x+400x240000=0

(x600)(x+400)=0x=600orx=400x=600

So, the origianl speed of the aircraft was 600km/hr

hence, duration of flight =(600x)hr=(60060)hr=1hr
