Main parts of an embryo of dicot seed are:
  • Plumule: Terminal portion of epicotyl which gives rise to shoot system.
  • Radicle: Terminal portion of hypocotyl which gives rise to root system.
  • Epicotyl: The portion of embryonal axis which is above the level of cotyledons.
  • Hypocotyl: The portion of embryonal axis which is below the level of cotyledons.
  • 2 Cotyledons attached to embryonal axis.
  • Hilum: The scar showing the place where the ovule was attached to placenta.
  • Micropyle: Opening through which pollen tube enters the ovule.
