Solution

Definition of median of a data

The middle number is found by ordering the numbers in ascending order(or descending). Once the numbers are ordered, the middle number is called the median of the given data set.

Median, in simple words, is defined as the middle value of a sorted list of numbers.

When the given data is arranged in ascending (or descending) order, then the middlemost observation is the median of the data.

For example: The median of 3,1, and 8 is 3 because when the numbers are put in ascending order, they become 1,3,8 , and the number 3 is in the middle.

Therefore, in a given data, arranged in ascending or descending order, the middlemost observation is called median.
