Question

Solution

The correct option is C the temperature of the water is the same as the temperature of the remaining ice cubes
Thermal equilibrium is defined as the stage of the system, where no further heat transfer takes place. In the given problem when it is placed in the bowl of water, for an hour the ice melts, this can only be possible if the heat transfer is from water to ice. Thus the temperature of liquid is greater than the ice. Now after an hour thermal equilibrium is reached, therefore, no further heat transfer takes place. Thus the system is left with more liquid and less ice.
