Ear basically performs two function hearing and body balance. To meet the two function ear has phonoreceptors or statoreceptors. Vestibular nerve carries impulse from the semicircular canals that provide information about posture, movement and balance. Cochlear nerve carries impulses from the cochlea, so is known as the nerve of hearing. Cranial nerve VIII or the eighth cranial nerve is the vestibulocochlear nerve. The vestibulocochlear nerve is responsible for the sense of hearing and it is also pertinent to balance.
