We know that, Area of a parallelogram $=$ Base $\times$ Corresponding altitude
$∴$ Area of parallelogram $A B C D = A D \times B N = A B \times D M$
$\Rightarrow A D \times 5 = 8 \times 4$
$\Rightarrow A D = \frac{8 \times 4}{5} = 6.4 c m$
