In a plant cell, the diffusion pressure deficit (DPD) is zero when it is
Diffusion Pressure Deficit (DPD) is the pressure difference between pure water and solution. Mathematically, DPD= Osmotic pressure – Turgor pressure. Osmotic pressure is the pressure which needs to be applied to a solution to stop the flow of its pure solvent whereas turgor pressure is the pressure inside a cell that pushes the cell wall against plasma membrane. When a plant cell is kept in a hypotonic solution, the cell absorbs water through the process of osmosis and becomes fully turgid (no water can be absorbed). Cell membrane gets fully stretched and hence, osmotic pressure decreases and become equals to turgor pressure of cell. Thus, DPD becomes zero.
